What happened to Big Boss?

XOF Trojan Horse Incident - 1975

         After Big Boss's chop took a blast and went down medic was in front of him took the shrapnel in the head, and both was in the coma. The medic was in the coma for 9 years, but Big Boss's coma is unknown.

Hospital Escape - 1984

         Before medic gain his consciousness Big Boss had already fully healed, and keep an eye on the medic as Ishmael help him escape from the hospital. After the escape when the ambulance he drove away from the hospital with the medic crashed he gain he was help to disappear by the help of Ocelot. Now he has his new identity and his phantom, he just disappear and create the Outer Heaven.

*Compare to his phantom, Big Boss also don't have a scar on his face, and he still have both arms.

Operation Intrude N312/N313 - 1995

         

          These incident in 1995 was planned and Venom Snake acknowledge about it, But no clue that he know that he will die in 1995.

The Cassette tape that was sent from Big Boss on the B side it's written Operation Intrude N313. Maybe Venom Snake know that he will be dead, or just acknowledge about Big Boss going to sent some agent to Outer Heaven.

Who is Venom Snake?
       
         He is someone who was on the chop when the bomb explode and took the blast and shrapnel instead of Big Boss, Militaires Sans Frontieres's Medic who removed the first bomb from Paz's guts. This also explain Big Boss survival from Outer Heaven Uprising incident.
         This was Big Boss's plan all along to have him as his decoy, at that time Cipher want him dead, so he just have to disappear by brainwashed medic that he is Big Boss and change his face, created his own "Phantom".

Who know about this plan?
          Only person know about Big Boss's Phantom except his phantom and himself, is Ocelot. Also he is the first to get Venom Snake out of cyprus. Kazuhira also acknowledge this plan after he was rescued from Afghanistan.

Venom Snake's Identity : Is he really a big boss?

At this point I think many people would already figure the truth about Big Boss, but the clue was shown long before the game release and before the game reveals it. For those who haven't finished the game, *SPOILER ALERT*

Is Venom Snake a Big Boss?

       Unfortunately, No. In Phantom's Pain the main character appear to be Big Boss but the truth is he isn't. Before talking about who he really is lets talk about clue.

Timeline

For the time line I will start from the creation of the Philosophers to Naked Sin and Naked Son incident.

1918 - The Philosophers, an organization that aim to control everything (economics, power, politics), is created by the joined forces of Russian, China and USA.

1939 - The Philosophers created a Philosophers legacy which contain money of one hundred billion dollars and name of the secret member of the organization.

1962 - CIA created a unit FOX (Force Operation X) led by major Zero

1964 - Operation Snake Eater : After nuclear attack set up by Colonel Volgin, The Boss declare defected to Russia. Snake was sent in to eliminate Colonel Volgin and The Boss. After the mission Snake receive a title "Big Boss".

1966 - Big Boss, as a mercenary, met Frank Jaeger a young boy soldier.

1970 - San Hieronymo Incident : FOX, now led by gene, was turn into renegade group. Also Big boss have encounter with Null, who was brainwashed but in the end he was able to regain his memories.

1970 - After San Hieronymo Incident Big Boss rejoined FOX unit.

1970 - The Philosopher was reorganized as "The Patriots" by Big Boss, Ocelot and Major Zero. By using the Philosopher's Legacy ocelot obtain. The goal is to fulfill The Boss's dream of create an unified world.

1972 - Les Enfants Terrible : A project to clone the legendary soldier "Big Boss". The twin snake "Liquid Snake(Eli)" and "Solid Snake(David)" was born as imperfect clone by have EVA as surrogate mother. Later the third clone was born after as "Solidus Snake(George Sears)".

1972 - Big Boss leave The Patriots. Major Zero rename the organization "Cipher".

1972 -Big Boss form a mercenary group Militaires Sans Frontieres that provide force for who ever need them regardless of nation or ideologies.

1974 - Peace Walker Incident : Militaires Sans Frintieres was asked by Costa Rican forces represented by "Ramon Galvez Mena" and his student "Paz Ortega Andrade" to repel an unknown armed force that reveal as Peace Sentinel, a mercenary created by CIA. After Metal Gear Peace Walker were destroy by it's own AI that replicate "The Boss" created by Dr.Strangelove. Paz took Metal Gear ZEKE and reveal herself working with Cipher. The Metal Gear ZEKE was shot down and Paz fell into the ocean and assume KIA.

* At this point Big Boss has already met "Benedict Kazuhira Miller" and have him as his subcommander.

1975 - XOF Trojan Horse Operation : Some time after the Peace Walker incident. Big Boss learned that Paz wasn't dead and been captured at camp omega in Cuba. Chico went to rescue Paz by himself so big boss went in and rescue both of them.  When Big Boss have rescued both Chico and Paz, and remove a bomb from Paz's guts, and about to arrive at base he found out that XOF a unit led by Skull face had destroy the Militares Sans Frontieres base while big boss was on a mission by the order from Cipher. While Big Boss and remaining agent escape Paz gain conscious and told Big boss that there's another bomb inside her then jump down from helicopter, the impact from explosion crash the helicopter. Big boss was in the coma for 9 years.

1984 - 26 febuary Venom Snake gain conscious and acknowledge his lost of left arm. 

1984 - Hospital Escape : March 11, Cipher sent in some unit to kill Big Boss (include "Quiet"), but he escaped with the aid of man named "Ishmael". Quiet got injured and received parasite therapy.

1984 - Venom Snake join the Diamond Dogs as a new commander. And start his revenge against the Cipher and XOF with the aid from Ocelot and Kazuhira Miller

1984 - Venom Snake rescue Kazuhira Miller from Afghanistan, 10 day after he recovered.    

1984 - Venom Snake encounter "Quiet", a female sniper whom attempt to assassinate him at the hospital, while on a way to extract Dr.Huey Emmerich.

1984 - At some point in the year Snake met "Eli" (AKA White Mamba) in Masa Village

1984 - Quiet died by vocal chord parasite, sacrifice herself to save Snake.

1984 - Snake come to contact with skullface, finally get his revenge and retrieved  Metal Gear Sahelantropus.

1991 - Big Boss return to FOXHOUND as a commander with out US government's acknowledge.

1995 - Big Boss establishes the fortified military nation "Outer Heaven".

1995 - Operation Intrude 312 : Grey Fox (Frank Jaeger) was sent in and was captured.

1995 - Operation Intrude 313 : Solid Snake, a rookie agent at that time, was sent in to rescue Gray Fox and destroy Metal Gear TX-55. In the end the fact that the one who behind Outer Heaven "Big Boss" was revealed, Solid Snake killed him. Roy Campbell replace Big Boss's place in FOXHOUND.

1997 - Big Boss freed Zanzibar Land from Russia.

1999 - Zanzibar Land Disturbance : Solid Snake encounter Grey Fox, now as an enemy,destroy Metal Gear D and kill him. At the end snake encounter Big Boss again and kill him, but The Patriots revive and conceal his camatose body.

2000 - Roy Campbell leaves FOXHOUND, Liquid Snake joined and take control of the unit.

2005 - Shadow Moses Incident : Solid Snake was called by US military to infiltrate Shadow Moses island that was taken by FOXHOUND unit that led by Liquid Snake. 

2005 - Solid Snake fight against Ocelot, at the end of the fight Ocelot's right arm was cut-off by Cyborg Ninja (Grey Fox)

2005 - Solid Snake met Hal Emmerich (Huey and Strangelove's son)

2005 - Solid Snake learned about Les Enfants Terrible from his twin brother Liquid Snake.

2005 -Liquid Snake killed Cyborg Ninja with Metal Gear REX

2007 - After Ocelot,after his consciousness was taken over by Liquid's cell, got away with Metal Gear Ray, Solid Snake was blamed so he fake his death by using Liquid's Body and change his name to "Iroquois Pliskin".

2009 - Big Shell Incident : After Solid Snake's,fake ,death, new FOXHOUND recruit "Snake", later his name was change during mission as "Raiden", was sent to infiltrate a decontamination facility "Big Shell" with the help of "Pliskin" after it was seized by terrorist group "Sons of Liberty" led by Solidus Snake.

2009 - Raiden learn about Solidus Snake was his foster father and he killed his parent. Later he killed Solidus Snake

2011 - The Patriots finished develop an arsenal gunship, later stolen by Ocelot and renamed "Outer Haven". Ocelot hid it at Shadow Moses Island.

2014 - Ocelot was fully controlled by Liquid. Being known as Liquid Ocelot. Solid Snake start to age really fast, and called "Old Snake".

2014 - Liquid Ocelot Controlled the world's largest PMC "Outer Heaven" a combined of five PMCs.

2014 - Liquid Ocelot's Insurrection : Liquid's plan to remove power from The Patriot

2014 - Liqiud Sun : Liquid's movement in Middle East with Praying Mantis PMC. Snake was sent in to eliminate Liquid, but failed.

2014 - Solid Sun : Liquid's movement in South America with Pieuvre Armement PMC. Snake was sent in to rescue Dr.Naomi Hunter(Grey Fox's adopted sister) and success with the help of cyborg ninja who reveal to be Raiden.

2014 - Third Sun : Liquid's movement in Eastern Europe with Raven Sword PMC. Snake's mission is to locate and prevent Liquid to gain Big Boss's body that was held by Paradise Lost Army led by "Big Mama"or snake's surrogate mother "EVA", but failed. After Liquid gain Big Boss's body(but actually took the decoy, Solidus Snake's body),he shut down all PMCs excluding his own via "Sons of the Patriots", an advanced battlefield control system that control all nano-machines that used by PMC. Big Mama died in this incident.

EVA (2014)

2014 - Twin Sun : Liquid's movement on Shadow Moses Island with Werewolf PMC. Snake was sent in to prevent Liquid from gaining Metal Gear REX's rail gun. At the end Snake have a mech fight with Liquid. Snake pilot Metal Gear REX and Liquid Pilot Metal Gear RAY. Both injured severely but Liquid had escaped with the Outer Haven.

2014 - Old Sun : Final moment of Liquid's Insurrection, Liquid Ocelot attempt to destroy The Patriot's core AI. Snake volunteer to plant a FOXALIVE virus in the Outer Haven's "GW(George Washington)" AI to stop rail gun from shooting The Patriots's core AI "JD(John Doe)" by going through the microwave defence system. But the outcome is after shut down the GW, all of The Patriot's system also went down and destroy all AI and nano-machines in the world. Later Liquid and Snake had the last fight on the roof top of Outer Haven. Liquid Ocelot died. 

2014 - Naked Sin and Naked Son : Snake visit Big Boss's grave with only 1 year left to live. Attempting suicide but interrupted by a man pushing another man one wheelchair that approach him. The man was Big Boss and Major Zero on the wheelchair. Big Boss explain about Solidus's body that Liquid used instead of his body works because he was his perfect clone. He continued to explain that Zero let the AI take control The Patriot, which led the world being dependent on war economy. Then he close the oxygen tank that keep zero alive, killing him. Then he salute The Boss's Grave one last time and share his last Cigarette with snake, then passed away in Snake's arm.
